The Most Obvious Surprise

I've torn up all the photos
That I wanted to forget,
There's spaces in these albums 
I can't bear to fill yet.
Burned down this house
So it won't smell like before,
Angry calls for solitude
Left cracks in the door.

I've scorned everyone for
The same mistakes I've made,
Washed these hands in bleach
And hoped the stains would fade.
Against you I protected
Never knowing what you were,
But I've overcome these fears
And I know what I prefer.

	But you came to put it back,

Everything that was
Is buried never to return,
Nothing left to tear
And nothing left to burn.
All that has been
Reduced now to nothing,
Inferior memories
To how I am loving.
